Generally speaking, one tip would be to rely less on tips from acquaintances (or strangers) and more on looking at the stocks themselves. If you understand how and in what environment a company earns money, you can usually assess its potential quite well. If this is not possible, an investment should at least be viewed critically.

Specifically on Amazon - yes, it has potential.
However, I would rather wait for the next setback before entering the market.
